Reclaiming the Feminine:

How Women Can Embody Their Power and Presence

Have you ever noticed how often we’re rushing from one task to the next, thinking, planning, managing, and juggling, all while trying to keep everything under control?

For many women, this didn’t just happen because life got busy. It became a way of surviving.

When you’ve come out of a narcissistic or abusive relationship, you often learn very quickly that being soft, open, or fully expressed isn’t always safe. So you adapt.

You become more logical.
More contained.
More controlled.

You stay in your head because your body no longer feels like a safe place to be.

And without even realising it, you move further and further away from yourself. If this feels familiar, it’s not random, there are real reasons your mind and body respond this way, and you can read more about that here: Why Personal Change Is So Hard.

Our modern world rewards busyness, productivity, and logic, which are all qualities of masculine energy.

But for many women, especially those who have experienced control, manipulation, or abuse, this isn’t just conditioning from society. It’s protection.

Masculine energy becomes the place you hide. It helps you take action, make decisions, and keep everything together when things feel uncertain or unsafe.

But living exclusively in “doing mode” comes at a cost.

When we rely only on logic, action, and control, we lose connection with a deeper, richer part of ourselves, our feminine essence, the part that is intuitive, creative, connected, and alive. And this is where many women start to feel the quiet disconnect.

Life might look “fine” on the outside. You’re functioning. You’re coping.

But something feels missing.

For many women, this disconnect is part of a deeper pattern that often forms in relationships where their needs were minimised or overridden, if that resonates, read Why You Keep Repeating the Same Relationship Patterns After Divorce.

For some women, sexuality becomes something they lean into as a way to regain control or feel powerful again.

For others, and this is far more common than we talk about, it gets shut down completely.

Not because it’s gone. But because it didn’t feel safe to keep it open.

I was one of those women. I didn’t lose my femininity. I protected it.

When your body has been crossed, ignored, or used, it makes complete sense that you would close off from that part of yourself.

There is nothing wrong with you for doing that. It’s intelligent. It’s protective. And it’s often necessary. But what once protected you can quietly become the thing that keeps you disconnected.

Part of reconnecting with yourself is learning where you end and others begin, and how to protect your energy without shutting yourself down, this is where boundaries become essential, you can explore this more here: Setting Boundaries After Divorce.

This is where many women begin, not by doing everything differently overnight, but by starting to notice themselves again.

And once that awareness starts to come back, small daily practices can help you gently reconnect with your body and what you’re feeling, you can begin here: How to Set a Healing Intention Each Day.

Reclaiming feminine energy isn’t about rejecting the masculine, and it’s definitely not about becoming someone you’re not.

It’s about creating safety within yourself again.

It’s about reconnecting with your body, your intuition, your presence, and your natural way of being, in a way that feels grounded, not forced.

It’s about moving through life with both strength and softness, control and trust, action and presence.

Understanding Feminine Energy

Feminine energy is about being rather than doing. It’s about grounding yourself in your body, particularly in your womb centre, the true power hub for women. From this centre flows creativity, intuition, and life force.

Everything ever created comes through the feminine, not just life itself, but ideas, art, inspiration, and new ways of being. When women reconnect with their feminine essence, they create from inspiration rather than obligation, from flow rather than force.

Unfortunately, our culture often prioritises logic over intuition, productivity over presence, and control over flow. Over time, this conditioning disconnects us from our natural rhythms, leaving us exhausted, anxious, or feeling that something vital is missing, even when life appears “perfect.”

Remembering Our Natural Way of Being

Long before modern societal structures, there were societies that honoured the feminine in profound ways. Evidence from anthropology and archaeology shows that prehistoric matriarchal communities, dating back tens of thousands of years, often placed women at the centre of decision-making, spiritual life, and social cohesion.

During the Neolithic era (c. 9,000 – 3,000 BCE), early farming communities celebrated goddess worship, fertility rituals, and the sacred cycles of women, recognising their intuition, creativity, and life-giving power.

By the time of ancient Egypt (~3,000 – 30 BCE), women could wield significant influence in political, religious, and cultural life. Queens and priestesses held authority, and goddess worship — of Isis, Hathor, and Sekhmet — shaped society.

Cleopatra, one of history’s most iconic female leaders, is a powerful example of feminine wisdom, strategy, and presence in a world that was otherwise patriarchal.

In these societies, power didn’t mean dominance; it meant harmony. Creation, rest, and community were equally valued. Simply being, fully present and connected to one’s inner wisdom, was enough.

Today, we celebrate strength, resilience, and multitasking. While these are admirable qualities, strength without softness becomes armour, and resilience without rest leads to burnout.

Reconnecting with your feminine essence is about rediscovering the wisdom, softness, and inner presence that made women in these ancient societies, and like Cleopatra herself, powerful, influential, and magnetic.

The Power of Feminine Presence

When you inhabit your feminine energy, life changes in subtle but profound ways:

  • You stop forcing outcomes and start flowing.

  • You stop striving to prove yourself and start receiving.

  • You stop controlling and start trusting yourself and the world around you.

Feminine presence is magnetic. It doesn’t need to shout to be heard; it’s felt. When women embody this energy, people notice, not because of achievements or appearances, but because of the way they show up: grounded, authentic, and connected.

Presence becomes a form of power that transcends performance. It’s confidence without arrogance, softness with strength, and influence without effort. This energy transforms not only your inner world but also the impact you have on others.

Why Reclaiming Your Feminine Matters

Reconnecting with your feminine essence allows you to:

  • Restore balance between doing and being.

  • Reclaim creativity and inspiration that may have been buried under stress or obligations.

  • Strengthen intuition and decision-making through inner wisdom rather than external pressure.

  • Experience joy, flow, and ease in life rather than constant exhaustion.

This isn’t about abandoning ambition or responsibility. It’s about integrating your masculine and feminine energies so that action flows from presence, and presence guides action. Integration creates a life that feels aligned, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling.

Your Feminine Journey Starts Here

Reclaiming your feminine is not something you “learn” once and tick off.

It’s something you remember.

For many women, especially after leaving a narcissistic or abusive relationship, this part of themselves feels lost.

You question yourself.
You disconnect from your body.
You stop trusting what you feel.

And over time, you can begin to believe you’ve lost your femininity altogether.

I remember feeling exactly that.

It didn’t feel safe to be soft.
It didn’t feel safe to be open.
It didn’t feel safe to be fully expressed, especially in my sexuality.

So I shut it down.

Not because something was wrong with me, but because that’s what I had to do to cope.

But here’s what I came to understand:

You don’t lose your femininity.
You protect it.

And when you’re ready, you can reconnect with it, gently, safely, in your own time.

Stepping back into the woman I am, into my femininity and my sexuality, has been one of the most empowering things I’ve ever done.

Not performative.
Not forced.
Not for anyone else.

But for me.
